The recent baby boom on the Bratislava art scene is an alternative possibility, a situation, a theme, through which artists, curators, theoreticians – i.e., parents – may get to know one another, or perhaps get to know one another again. The circle of themes for dialogue is widened. What is it that parenthood brings, in what way does it develop us, and in which questions does it force us to take an interest? Parenthood often means the isolation of the artist from the community, but it may also be a new reason for meeting and getting to know people from the artistic milieu. Two preparatory meetings in the garden of tranzit.sk, named according to the activities recommended in the book on education, will utilise this condition to “bring closer” the relational milieu in the artistic community. Parenthood here may be a topic of discussion, a question, or a stimulus to artistic work, or it may be simply a sharing of feelings and experience. The first meeting, entitled 32. Exercise: Seeking the Source of Sound will be held on June 1. Activities with musical instruments will be prepared for the children. The second meeting on July 7, 25. Exercise: Kicking the ball, will consist of various physical activities for children. For parents, a library of educational literature will be available.

- in tranzit’s courtyard a variety of movement activities will be prepared for children (e.g. an obstacle course, children’s tent, balls etc.)

BIO:

Jana Kapelová (b. 1982) is an artist, teacher and parent. In her works there is a meeting of institutional critique – reflecting her cultural-political engagement in the artistic field – with a more philosophical interest in the opportunities for the individual to circumvent or transform the (non-functional) social system and thus achieve self-realisation. At the same time, the question is posed of what role art itself plays in all this.
