Andrea Kalinová

For years we’ve been meeting them, at almost all exhibition openings. While the generations of students, artists and teachers change, as do the friends with whom we go to openings, they remain the same. But what do we know about them, apart from the fact that they’re the first to sample the wine and refreshments? Does their perception of art go beyond canapés? Why and when did they start going to exhibition openings? And what do they actually do when they’re not going to openings? The project is organised in cooperation with Petra Baliková and the ethnologist Irena Jenčová.

BIO:

Andrea Kalinová (1980) is a graduate of Milota Havránková’s Art Photography Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, where she has also completed a doctoral study at the Department of Intermedia with docent Anton Čierny. The theme of her dissertation was the interpenetration of visual art and urban activism. In her work she is concerned with local memory and the revitalisation of forgotten spaces. In 2011 she initiated the Abandoned (re)creation project, which engages in the popularisation of threatened 20th century architecture, especially in the spa town of Trenčianske Teplice.
